Storyboard Text

  • Are Viruses Living?
  • As a virus, I do not grow or develop. Instead of a cell, I have genetic material enclosed in a protein coat.
  • To reproduce, we need a living cell. When we encounter a cell that our proteins bind, the cell takes us in and is forced to use our genetic material to copy us.
  • Location makes no difference to me. I do not maintain homeostasis.
  • Is that supposed to bother me?
  • I feel nothing...
  • No cafeteria food for me! My host cell may have to use extra energy as it makes virus copies, but I have NO metabolism.
