The important event in Gn 9 is when God made a promise with Noah. But before that happened he told Noah that there was going to be a flood, and it was going to kill all mortal things. God also told him to take 2 of every animal so they can reproduce. Later, when everything is over God will give him a sign, that sign is the promise. He promised that when everything is over he will put a rainbow in the sky to symbolize it's over.
"Be fertile then, and multiply abound the earth and subdue it...the birds, the tame and all the wild animals that were with you-- all that came out of the ark"(Gn 9:7 & 10).
"I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood"(Gn 9: 11).
" I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth"(Gn 9: 13).
Be grateful for what you have, and don't take things for granted.
