La Inca saved Beli from her "monstrous" foster parents and enrolled her to El Redentor (the best private school in the Dominican Republic). In El Redentor Beli met Jack Pujols and fell in love with him.
"He [is] going to marry me! We [are] going to have children" (102) ! He already promised it.
Beli met the Gangster and fell in love with him. Just like Pujols The Gangster promised Beli a house and she believed him. "The thoughts he put in her head. Someone should have arrested him for it... He [was] a thief of innocence" (126).
"I´ll buy you a house in [...Miami and Havana] just so you can know how much I love you" (126)!
After Beli found out she was pregnant The Gangster's wife planed an attack on her. Beli lost her baby and almost lost her life.
"They killed my bebé, they tried to kill me" (153).
"You have to leave the country. They'll kill you if you don't" (160)
In the plane to New York Beli met the man who would become her "...husband and father of her two children" (164).
"I never want to see [Santo Domingo] again" (163).
"This is not something you'll want to miss" (165).
Beli married and had two children with the man on the plane but just "...after two years together he [...left] her. [He was] her third and final heartbreak" (164).
When it had seemed that Beli had overcome her tragic past she got breast cancer "and like that everything change[d]... doctors remove[d] [her] breast ... along with the axillary lymph node" (53).
