Storyboard Text

  • 1531:
  • I am King Henry VIII and it is time for a divorce, Catherine Of Aragon. You have given me no male heirs and I am infatuated by your young maiden-in-waiting, Anne Boleyn. I will tell the Church our marriage is sinful due to your past relations with my own brother, Arthur, and my wish will come true.
  • I can't believe you would do this to me!
  • Do not fret. I am the Holy Roman Emperor and a member of the Medici's as are you. Pope Clement will obey our wishes and prevent the annulment so you will continue to stay Henry's one true wife.
  • Cousin Charles V, my husband wants to divorce me and therefore my position will be completely destroyed! Please help me!
  • Meanwhile Pope Clement VII:
  • Not so fast Henry! I know you're motives, the Church does not accept the "sinfulness" of being married to your brother's wife for he is deceased. Therefore your argument is inadequate and you must stay married.
  • But I am the Church's "Defender in Faith"?! I have done endless favors for you and this is how I am repayed? Fine! I will start my own Angilican Church then: The Church of England. Our annulment will be finalized and I will marry Anne and finally gain a rightful heir!
  • 1533:
  • This is treason! The Pope must be informed!
  • I do!
  • 1534:
  • I am Pope Paul III and I will finish what Clement started! This marriage is an illegitimate marriage. The Parliament and I have decided to have you excommunicated and The Church of England will not be acknowledged by the people or they will be punished with the death sentence!
