When the farmer told his neighbor how he acquired the horse, the neighbor wanted to do the same thing so he could get an amazing gift just like the farmer.
The neighbor knew the farmer got a horse for giving the king an apple, so he thought the king would give him an even grander gift for one of his horses. So neighbor left home with the horse, and headed towards the palace.
As the neighbor approached the king and offered him his horse, the king immediately knew the man was expecting something in return. The king politely thanked him and stepped away to speak to one of his servants.
Why thank you, I'm actually short a horse!
Because the king knew he didn't offer the horse out of kindness but for greed, he wanted to play the neighbor. He told the servants to get the apple he just received and give it to the man.
Go get him the apple that the farmer just brought me!
The servants returned with the apple and gave it to the neighbor. He was furious, he gave the king a horse and all he got back was an apple. The king and his servants could not hold back their laughter. Before the neighbor could ask any questions the servants escorted him out of the palace.
The neighbor had no other choice but to return home, horseless, angry and with a brand new apple. The End
