  • Antigone
  • This shows how Antigone doesn't believe that Ismene is a trustful and loving family member.
  • “There it is,/ And now you can prove what you are:/ A true sister, or a traitor to your family” (Sophocles Prologue. 25-7).
  • ismene
  • Antigone
  • Ismene clearly uses gender roles as an excuse to not fight for her families rights, and is also not as brave as her sister Antigone.
  • “We are only women,/ We cannot fight with men, Antigone!” (Sophocles Prologue.46-8).
  • Ismene
  • Antigone
  • Antigone shows civil disobedience by being very stubborn and will not let her sister's negativity get in her way of fighting for what is honorable to her family, and would die just to prove a point about loyalty.
  • “But I will bury him: and if I must die, / I say that this crime is holy: I shall lie down / With him in death and I shall be as dear / To him as he to me” (Sophocles Prologue. 55-7).
  • Ismene
