Storyboard Text

  • Impressment
  • We just got some new American soldiers. Think we should put 'em to good use below deck?
  • Embargo Act
  • I shall now sign the bill for the Embargo Act!
  • Public Unrest
  • Get rid of the Embargo Act! Give us our money back!
  • The British soldiers were taking Americans from their ships and forcing them to join their navy. Some Americans were runaway British soldiers, caused by the horrible conditions they were forced to endure.
  • The Embargo Act was passed as a result of Impressment. It banned trading with Britain and France, and it was an attempt to hurt their economy. Unfortunately, it ended up backfiring.
  • Although the Embargo Act was supposed to negatively impact Britain and France, America's economy took more of a hit than their's did. People in New England were the ones suffering the most, since they relied on trading to make money.
