  • Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were hired by Thomas Jefferson to find a water route that connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
  • February 1805
  • Two days into the trip, Lewis slides of a ledge and almost died.
  • Spring 1805
  • Lewis and Clark met Sacagawea and used her to help them make peace with the natives.
  • November 1805
  • On February 11, 1805, Sacagawea gave birth to her son Jean who became the America's youngest explorer.
  • Sacagawea introduced Lewis and Clark to edible plants in the area that allowed them to hunt less and spend more time studying the area.
  • They went down the Columbia River and finally found the Pacific Ocean after 1.5 years.
