The Carthage strategy was to intervene on a dispute in Sicily and then get expelled when they reach Africa to attack with an army they have not seen.
Roman strategy was to mainly use ships and try to expel them from the coast the took.
in 264 BC Carthage intervene on a Sicily conflict and gained land in the area. Then in 260 BC roman fleet failed attack on them. Then in 256 BC another roman fleet sailed and made into africa to attack and they were about to surrender and in 255 BC they created an army and attacked.
Then in 241 BC when Rome had one of the biggest fleets they took over Sicily and Carthage surrendered.
