  • Andrew Carnegie and Henry C. Frick agree to lower the wages in the steel plants in Homestead PA. Workers in the factories were not happy with this especially the Amalgamated Association of Iron and steel workers.
  • The Amalgamated Association of Iron and steel workers didn't agree to Frick's terms so Frick decided to close the mills until the workers agreed. This left 1100 men without a job.
  • On the night of July 5th the Pinkerton Detective Agency's private amy traveled up the Monongahela river were thousands of strikers waited. For 14 hours the two groups shot at each other.
  • The strikers beat the private army but then the PA state militia stepped in and took over Homestead.
  • After 4 months the workers went back to work and the leaders were charged with treason, murder and lesser crimes.
  • Even after all of this the juries wouldn't convict any of the men charged with crimes.
