Louis Riel was put in trial and hung (killed) by John A. MacDonald for committing treason.
He shall die though every dog in Quebec bark in his favor.
The Metis were grateful to have Riel as their leader and they were in grief after his death.
Canadians were in a mixed situation. Riel did a lot for them but they didn't think that he was a good person.
