THE GLASS CASTLE STORYBOARD
The Walls family consists of: Father (Rex),mother (Rose Mary),and the kids. Lori is the oldest, next is Jeannette, Brian, and Maureen. The parents are always laid back while the kids worry about their lives and future.
1st steps to success
They have a pretty hectic history of moving all throughout the desert in the Western United States. But, Jeannette and her siblings experience most of their transition into adulthood in Welch,West Virginia.
The biggest conflict that I have noticed in the book was between the kids and the parents. Through careless actions, the parents never seemed to desire the best for their children. On the other hand, the kids thought about food, working, and getting education.
In high school, Jeannette is able to find her "niche" in writing and editing articles for the school newspaper. She is extremely talented and does well in school. With the help of her teacher, she chooses her major.
Jeannette's older sister Lori moves to New York City, and right before senior year, Jeannette decides to make the move. This is important because it symbolizes "breaking free" from the negative environment that had always surrounded them as kids.
Freedom and hard work are probably the main themes of this book. Through her personal story, Jeannette is able to portray a real life example of "From rags to riches". But, this only happened because she decided that she needed to break away from her parents and their lifestyle because it is not an example to live up to.
