I've never seen someone with so much skill! She must have learned from the gods!
I earned this skill myself with my own two hands and hardwork!
You're crazy if you think I will ever apologize to Athene!
Beg for forgiveness right this second!
Arachne was the best weaver in the world. Soem would even compare her to a god! People around the land would gather to watch Arachne do her craft. This made Arachne think she was better than everyone, even a god!
That's what I thought!
One day Arachne heard someone say "She must have learned from Athene herself", this angered Arachne. She replied by saying "I got this skill from my own hard work and practice. If Athene came down here right now I would beat her in a weave-off".
The same day an old lady came to Arachne's cabin. She told her "Take back your words and ask Athene for forgiveness, and don't ever compare yourself to a god again". By the time she finished Arachne was bewildered and angered. She told the old lady that she was crazy and that she was better than Athene!
The old lady turned into Athene! Arachne was shocked and scared. She couldn't believe that she actually said that to Athene's face. By this time a crowd had formed. Athene didn't say a word, instead she simply sat down and started weaving. Arachne quickly got to her seat and started weaving.
Arachne and Athene were at the same were weaving at the same pace for most of the competition. Athene eventually went faster than Arachne. Athene was weaving a beutiful pattern. When Athene finished she stood back and watched Atachne. She realized that Arachne was weaving an image of gods doing trickery, evil, and pretending to be humans. Athene was furious.
Athene slapped Arachne! Arachne couldn't let this happen, her pride was to big and instead of taking the shame she was going to take her own life. Athene was not going let Arachne get away that easy so she turned Arachne into a spider. Now every time that people see spiders they remember what Arachne did and they never undermined the gods again.
