Your name is now Abraham and your wife's name is now Sarah
I am changing your name. Your name is Israel.
I'm making you a steward
Jewish history began with a man named Abram and his wife, Sarai. The God of Abram called him into a special kind of personal relationship. As one sign of their unique relationship, God gave Abram a new name: Abraham and God also gave Sarai a new name: Sarah. This unique relationship is called a covenant, which means a promise with God. Sarah gave birth to a baby boy and named him Issac, the first baby to be born Jewish.
come to Egypt.
The covenant between God and Abraham was renewed with a guy named Jacob, Issac's son. Like Abraham, God spoke with Jacob but it was in a dream. God also gave Jacob a new name just like Abraham. Jacob's new name was Israel. He also would become the father of 12 boys.
I'm adopting this baby I found in a river.
one of Jacob's 12 sons was named Joseph. Joseph was Jacob's favourite son out of all the other sons. Jacob's other sons were jealous of Joseph and they sold Joseph to become a slave to some merchants who were on their way to Egypt. but, Joseph was destined for greatness and with God's help, Joseph ended up being a steward in the home of a rich Egyptian and not into a slave.
Follow me to the promised land.
Joseph would receive and education and worked his way to the position of Prime minister of the country. Joseph also forgave his brothers, who sold him to become a slave. Joseph also invited his father and brothers to move to Egypt so they can have better living conditions. The Jewish people would live in harmony with the Egyptians before some cruel Pharaoh would change a few things. The Pharaoh turned the Jewish people into slaves.
A unknown Pharaoh made a law for all newborn Jewish babies to be killed by drowning them in the Nile river because the Pharaoh grew insecure about the Jewish people increasing their population. A baby named Moses was put in a basket by his parents and into a river in order to save Moses due to the new law by the Pharaoh. Moses was eventually founded by the Pharaoh's daughter who adopted Moses and raised him to become the prince of Egypt.
Moses later found out about his Jewish roots and left his life he had in Egypt and wandered around the desert. While out in the field, Moses saw a bush catch on fire. When Moses came forward, God spoke to him and told Moses to set the slaves free and bring them to the promised land. After that, Moses went to mount Sinai and made the ten commandments. Moses then went on to lead the people to the promise land for 40 years and the Moses died.
