  • Sir Launcelot has taken full control over France along with his army.
  • The problem is that he also is having a conflict with King Arthur
  • “My lord Sir Launcelot, is it wise to allow King Arthur to lay your lands waste10 when sooner or later he will oblige you to offer him battle?” (248)
  • “My lord, I would recommend that we remain withinthe walls of our city until the invaders are weakened by cold and hunger, and thenlet us sally forth and destroy them.” (250)
  • “Sir Launcelot, I understand that it is out of courtesythat you permit the king to ravage your lands, but where will this courtesy end? Ifyou remain within the city, soon everything will be destroyed.” (250)
  • "I have made the choice to call peace with king Arthur instead of having war"
  • King Arthur receives the message from Sir Lancelot
  • "If we give up now we will be seen as cowards!"
  • “Sir Gawain, I will do as you advise, although reluctantly, for Sir Launcelot’sterms are generous and he is still dear to me. I beg you make a reply to him onmy behalf.” (250)
