The treaty of Waitangi was when the British people and Maori had an agreement to live together with peace and no war between them, since they signed the Treaty of Waitangi.
According to research, they did the treaty at that time just because it was a decision and it just happened then
The British crown and his people, with more than 500 Maori chiefs. I’m guessing it was a pretty awkward signing with the British crown because they both spoke different languages and it would’ve been really quiet when everyone took a turn signing the treaty.
It happened in New Zealand, in a place called Bay Islands and was first signed on the 6th of February 1840. I’m guessing it was in New Zealand because the British and the Maori had arranged where to do the treaty.
I think they had a translator and they talked about the things that will happen after the treaty and read the treaty. After that, they all sat down waiting for their turn of signing the treaty of Waitangi.
Well if a person didn’t agree with the treaty, they could’ve taken it and changed the words and the rules and when they signed the treaty, they would sign the wrong treaty and something could go terribly wrong.
According to my research, some Maori didn't sign the treaty because they didn't use rangatiratanga for sovereignty. Neither did some chiefs, it doesn't say why, but I'm sure it's for the same reason!
