Storyboard Text

  • In the first story, Montresor is angered and feels attacked because he was insulted, and in the second story the narrator seems like a bit of a nutcase but feels insulted by the eye. The motive of both narrators was feeling disrespcted.
  • you look quite unappealing today.
  • Introduction
  • why are his eyes so cold.
  • Claim
  • Fortunato enters Montresor's catacombs to taste the amontillado. While on the walk Fortunato strikes up a conversation about Montresor's family, "'Tell me-what is your coat of arms?' 'A golden foot on a blue background. The foot is crushing a serpent' 'And your motto?' 'No one insults me without punishment,'"
  • Reason and Evidence
  • No one insults me without punishment!
  • what's your family motto?
  • In the short story's "The Cask of Amontillado" and "The Tell Tale Heart" both of narrators got their revenge. In "The Cask of Amontillado" Montresor, the narrator got his revenge on Fortunato for insulting him. While in "The Tell Tale Heart" the narrator who remains nameless gets his revenge on an old man who has an eye that seems like it has power that makes the man angry whenever he makes eye contact with the man.
  • Analysis
  • Between these two stories Montresors Revenges was much more justified.
  • Counterclaim
  • i'm not crazy, right? NO, I'm not crazy.
  • The reason Montresor's revenge was more justified is because He was insulted by the man while while in "The Tell Tale Heart" the old man didn't purposefully do anything to insult the narrator.
  • Conclusion
  • I have won!
  • This quote proves that Montresor's revenge was more justified because on his family's coat of arms there is a boot crushing a serpent this means that he was just defending his family because a snake represents a predator that is attacking him and the boot represents him crushing the predator. Also when asked about his motto he told Fortunato it was "No one insults me without punishment this further proves the fact that he was defending his family name because at the beginning of the story he said he was insulted by fortunato.
  • 1. Some may argue that the narrator of The Tell Tale Heart's revenge was more justified because he was afraid of the eye. He thought the eye would harm him so he thought he had to destroy it, but the only reason he said that was because he was crazy. There was a quote I heard recently which was, "You know what a grown man doesn't say, that he's a grown man." this means somebody who knows they are something doesn't need to tell people that they are, so when the narrator keeps repeating "I'm not crazy..." it proves that he is crazy because if he knew he wasn't he wouldn't have to say anything.
  • In conclusion Montresors revenge was more rational because fortunato purposefully did something to attack Montresor unlike in "The Tell Tale Heart" and the narrator of "The Tell Tale Heart" was crazy.
