  • Protein Synthesis is the production of proteins. During Protein Synthesis the cell uses specific information from a gene on a chromosome to produce a specific protein.
  • RNA plays a very important role. It helps make proteins.
  •
  • Today we will be learning about DNA and RNA.
  • There are 2 types of RNA: Messenger RNA and Transfer RNA. Transfer RNA carries amino acids to the ribosome and adds to the growing protein. Messenger RNA copies the coded message from the DNA in the nucleus.
  •
  • RNA
  • DNA
  • Why is RNA so important?
  • I was just getting to that. It is plays the role in Protein Synthesis.
  • How To Make the Protiens 1) The First step is for the DNA molecule to " unzip" between it's base pairs. Then the messenger RNA gets one of the strands. 2) The messenger RNA then leaves the nucleus and enters the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm the messenger RNA attaches to a ribosome. In the ribosome the messenger RNA gives it the code for the protein. 3) Molecule of transfer RNA attachs to molecule of messenger RNA. 4) The protein molecule grows!
  •
  • Now say there's a mistake in the genetic material. This is when a mutation happens. A mutation is any change in a gene or chromosome.Mutations can cause the cell to make an incorrect protein. As a result, the organism's trait, or phenotype, may be different from what it normally would have been.
