Hi Alexandria, this is Dr. Grey from Lincoln Hospital. I would like you to stop by office as soon as you can.
I'm on my way!
How? I'm only 30 years old! I haven't even had children yet!
Alexandria, I'm sorry to inform you that you have Stage 4 invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer with metastatic lymph nodes. We can talk about treatment plans such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, but these will all be palliative treatments to reduce your pain. Your cancer has spread too much.
You not having children may be a plausible reason for developing breast cancer. You have higher hormone levels meaning that your cells have had more chances to grow a lot. Your invasive ductal carcinoma is triple negative, meaning you are both HR- and HER2-. This means there are less treatment options. I understand this is a lot, so please take your time and give me a call when you are ready to discuss future plans.
Mom, I have Stage 4 breast cancer and I only have 2 months to live! I'm going back to see the doctor tomorrow to discuss treatment plans. I'm so scared, Mom. I love you!
Alexandria, we should begin treatment immediately. You will receive surgery next week to remove any apparent cancerous cells. Next, you will begin both targeted chemotherapy, a combination of Tamoxifen and Herceptin, and radiation as adjuvant treatments to surgery. Please understand these are palliative treatments only to reduce your pain. Give me a call if you have any questions.
I don't feel too well. My fingers are turning black, my hair is falling out, I am weak, I feel nauseous, and I can't taste any of my food. I don't want to keep feeling like this. I don't want any more treatment. I want to explore my last days on earth instead.
ONE WEEK LATER...
Hi, Alexandria. How are you feeling? I came to do a physical check on you.
