Once upon a time, three mortal princesses were born. The youngest, Psyche, was so beautiful she was often compared to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.
This angered Aphrodite, so she sent her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with a monster.
But Cupid missed and struck himself with the arrow, causing him to fall in love with her himself.
Psyche's parents were worried they had angered the gods, so they went to the oracle of Apollo and asked him to tell Psyche's future. He told them she would be married to a god who awaited her at the top of a mountain, but that he was a monster.
But little Psyche wasn't scared. She simply said she deserved to be punished. Her parents brought her up to the top of the mountain and left her.
The god of wind carried her up to a meadow where she fell asleep.
