  • Why Did It Happen?
  • ...
  • Now this land is ours!!! The British always prevail!!
  • What were the aims?
  • The plantation on Offaly and Laois took place in 1556. The English wanted to extend their control over Ireland and they had a plan: to drive off all the land-settlers and replace them with either English or Scottish settlers.
  • ...
  • Also, something that lead to the plantations was the rebellion of the O'Moores and the O'Connors which took place in 1553 and had a gradual effect on the settlers.
  • What were the outcomes?
  • There were quite a number of aims of the plantations but I will only state a few of them. First of all, the English wanted full control over Ireland so they wanted to get as much power as they could.
  • ...
  • They wanted to take over all of their land in small divisions in order to gradually take over all of the land. Secondly, the settlers were planted so that the army doesn't have to go back and forth to fight wars there.
  • The plantation of Laois and Offaly was unsuccessful but a few things came out of it and those thing aren't good...for the English at least. The O'Moores and the O'Connors terrorised all the Planters that came...
  • to Ireland to make it clear to them that they don't want their land to be planted. Lastly, the cost to protect the planters was well over what their original budget would have been.
  • WE HAVE OUR LAND BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!
