  • Northern Free States: Why did they oppose it?
  • Your right, if we let them have this win then it will disrupt the balance of slave and anti- slave states.
  • Northern Free States: Beliefs about Congressional Power?
  • When the time comes for another state to join it will be anti-slavery!
  • This will also give us the majority in congress! Hopefully.
  • Northern Free States: Fears about the Compromise?
  • The Southerners would be able to make new slave laws and they would also have more power in congress.
  • The Northern free states didn’t want southern slave states to have more power than them in Congress. They also did not want to did not want to upset the balance between free and slave states.
  • Southern Slave States: Why did they support it?
  • We must not let the southerners have the power. We cant let them have the lead in congress!
  • If we win, then it will give us the power we need in congress to make new slave laws and states.
  • The Northern free states wanted any new states that joined the US to be anti-slavery. They also wanted to have the majority in congress.
  • Southern Slave States: Beliefs about states' rights?
  • We should be the ones that determined if a states should be slave or non slave. We woulds also get states rights and a week feral government.
  • The Northern free states feared that Slavery would allow southern states to have more power in Congress than the northern states and Slave states would create more slave laws.
  • Southern Slave States: Fears about the Compromise?
  • The state dose not matter but what matters is if it is a slave or anti-slavery state.
  • The Southern slave states would have slavery and this would give them more power in Congress. This also allowed them to harvest crops faster and have more "property".
  • The slaves would also give us more income form the crops, thus giving us more money.
  • The Southern slave states thought that it’s popular sovereignty to decide whether the people want the state to be a free or slave state. They also wanted states’ right and weak federal government, so that states could govern themselves.
  • The Southern slave states didn’t care if there was another state was admitted as long as they had another slaves state. The compromise would benefit both sides, and anti slavery people would be calm for awhile
  • The compromise will benefit both sides. slavery and anti-slavery.
