Storyboard Text

  • I tighten my grip again until he's gasping. The other two back away, but I don't care about them, or about Yolanda, who stands off to the side in silence. (pg. 37)
  • Not till we have an understanding. You don't mess with these kids, got it dickhead? Only one right answer keeps your face outta the dirt.
  • Lemme go, dammit.
  • Nice meeting you, Nadia.
  • When I release him, Malik coughs and goes to Yolanda's side. I laugh. His eyes bug wide and he sputters. When Yolanda laughs, too, he turns and stares her into silence. (pg.38)
  • You don't know who you're messing with. I own this school.
  • What the fuck?
  • David, You know who Malik Kaplan is.
  • Barney's in that tone that she uses when she thinks I'm being foolish. (pg.38)
  • Yeah, I know who he is. And now he needs to know something. I'm David Albacore, and this is Barney. You hurt her, I'll hand you your ass.
  • You said you owned the place, so I figured you for the principal. Not exactly how I expected an old lady principal to look.
  • No. He didn't hurt me, David.
  • Malik throws a crooked grin at her. She smiles back. Well, I'm itching to hurt him. And it isn't all just about Barney. (pg.38)
  • You and I are not.
  • I'll take my orders from the lady. Did I hurt you, honey?
  • Barney and I are friends.
  • HIs jaw drops. Yolanda clasps her hand to her mouth, but not before I catch her snickering. (pg.39)
  • Stay away from Barney, away from me...and away from that kid.
  • And pull your dammed pants up. Those baby-stripes look like a sign you're searching for a new kind of friend.
  • What the fuck you talking about?
  • Choose. Eat the loss or eat my first. Your call.
  • Malik frowns. He stares at me and a silent message passes between us. I'll be watching my back from here on in. Then he takes Yolanda's arm and struts off, as if he's won some kind of victory. (pg.39)
  • Sorry, Princess. That thug of yours is blood thirsty. Better be careful with him.
  • Reyes owes me money.
