"The LORD has kept me from bearing children. Have intercourse , then, with my maid; perhaps I shall have sons through her" (Gen. 16:2-3).
"You are responsible for this outrage against me. I myself gave my maid to your embrace; but ever since she became aware of her pregnancy, she has been looking onme with disdain" (Gen 16:5).
"Your maid is in your power. Do to her whatever you please"(Gen 16:6).
"Hagar, maid of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going" (Gen 16: 8).
"I am running away from my mistress"(Gen 16:8).
Abram's wife Sarai cannot bear a child so she offers her Egyptian handmaiden for Abram to have intercourse with in hope's of her bearing a child.
"Go back to your mistress and submit to her abusive treatment. I will make your descendants so numerous, " added the LORD's messenger, "that they will be too many to count" (Gen 16:9-10). "You are now pregnant and shall bear a son; you shall name him Ishmael, * For the LORD has heard you. God has answered you. He shall be a wild ass of a man, his hand against everyone, and everyone's hand against him; In opposition to all his kin shall he encamp" (Gen 16:11-12).
Hagar finds out she is pregnant and she looks at her master with disdain. She feels ashamed for what has happened. Sarai yells at Abraham, but Abram says that the handmaiden is her responsibility.
Sarai abused Hagar to the point that she ran away. The Lord's messenger found Hagar by a spring in the wilderness and asked her why she was there. She told him she was running from her mistress.
Now you know my story from Genesis chapter 16.
To Hagar's surprise, the Lord's messenger tells her to go back. She then gave the LORD who spoke to her a name, the God of Vision.
Hagar gave birth to a son and named him Ishmael. Abram was 86 years old when Ishmael was born.
