Storyboard Text

  • Siddhartha was born a prince. His father, Suddhodana, wanted him to be a great King one day, like himself. He got a holy man to prophesize want his son would be in the future...
  • Your son will either be a great leader, or a great teacher.
  • He's going to be a great king like oneself... definitely NOT a holy man
  • He's so beautiful!
  • Suddhartha's life was perfect, as his father shielded him from all the bad things in the world. Suddhodana thought his son would not feel the need for religion then, and not become a holy man. But Siddhartha was sick of being in the palace, he wanted something else...
  • I love you, Siddhartha, my loving husband!
  • What can I get you, your royal highness?
  • I want to go outside the palace walls...
  • I love you too...
  • But that holy man looks happy. Maybe that's the answer to all my questions.
  • The next morning, Siddhartha decided to go outside the palace walls. He saw 4 sights:
  • A funeral procession, walking through the streets.
  • There's so much sadness in the world...
  • H... Help... M... Me
  • An old man barely getting by.
  • I feel so ill! Help...
  • And a holy man praying .
  • A sick man struggling.
  • Hummm...
  • Siddhartha left the palace that night, and rode to the forest, exchanging his 'robes for rags'. He found a group of holy men, and they told him if he let himself suffer his spirits would be free. Siddhartha decided to starve himself...
  • I don't think this is the answer to my problem...
  • Therefore, Siddhartha decided to give up his suffering as it too had not provided him with the answer he needed.
  • I am finally at peace! The only way to find peace is to stop wanting. I am enlightened!
  • Siddhartha moved on, and sat underneath a tree for days. During this time, he found the answer to his questions. The only way to find peace is to 'stop wanting'. Siddhartha was enlightened.
