May of my Freshman year in high school I was playing in my first professional golf event: The US Women’s Open Qualifier. If I played well I would have the opportunity to play in the US Women’s Open; which has been my dream since I was seven.
I am so excited to play today!
Wow evyerone here seems so much older. I had no idea I would be the youngest here; it's kind of intimidating.
I was the youngest player in the field at 14 years old. I was playing against players in college and professionals twice my age.
I really want to show that I belong... I need to play well.
Internally I put a lot of pressure on myself to play well. I wanted to show that I belonged with all of the other accomplished players.
Anna, you are going to great today. I am so excited to be caddying for you. Know that I am really proud of you, many kids your age have not come close to what you have achieved.
What am I doing why do I keep messing up. Everyone here probably thinks that I do not belong I should not even be here I can never reach this level of play.
During the first round of the tournament I was having trouble with my mental game. I had already been putting pressure on myself to show that belonged. When my dad told me that college coaches were watching there was extra pressure to perform.
What is she doing?
He helped me realize how far I have come for my age and that college coaches were just looking to see how I performed under pressure.
After the First round I decided to call my coach.
Going into the second round I was able to put less pressure on myself and let my body and mind do what it has been trained to do.
Ok, Anna time to relax and do what you know how to do. Having the opportunity to play in the US Open is your dream do not let it slip away because you have the talent and work ethic to get there.
