Lindsay is a girl from the topside. "...suddenly Lindsay felt a bit foolish standing there, as if she had used a cannon to kill a fly" (54) This shows that she is compassionate, for she was man that she hurt this boy.
Resolving the Conflict
The main conflict in Downsiders is the differences between topsiders and downsiders. They each have their own way of living. For instance, downsiders live on what is found on the downside alone. When they get new people, they have them leave behind everything, from their clothes to even their name
The climax is when Lindsay's dad digs into the downside and risks the way life that the downsiders follow.
It turns out that the downside all started out as a train station that was abandoned many years ago. However, the downside was blown up, so there really wasn't a good solution to the conflict, but it was resolved.
The main message of this book is that surprises can be lurking around every corner, and you never know what may be hiding in plain sight.
