In Chapter 4, Victor Frankenstein goes to a graveyard to get body parts for his creature. He digs up graves and takes certain body parts from corpses.
Victor heads back to his laboratory with his corpse parts. "To examine causes of life, we first have recourse to death"(Ch.4 Pg. 36).
In this part of the chapter, Victor is assembling the body parts. He then comes up with a creation, and is proud of it at first.
Lightning then strikes his creature, and he comes alive. "By the glimmer of the half extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open"(Ch.5 Pg. 42).
The creature is alive. It sits up, an big welcoming smile to Victor. Victor is in extreme shock.
After the creature comes alive and smiles at Victor, he flees in horror and disgust. He automatically loathes the creature only because he is very ugly.
