The colonists are trying to head to North America because they were religiously persucuted and were in search of a better life.

By the middle of the 1700's British settlers were moving into the french territory. Resulting in a conflict called the French and Indian war. The war cost the British government millions of dollars so they looked for a way to generate money.
Boston Tea Party
The war caused Britain to be in debt in 1763 and the Parliament decided to tax the colonists. One of the first taxes was called the Stamp Act where the colonists to pay fees on all kinds of printed documents.
Start of the War
The colonists are outraged because Parliament didn't have their consent to tax them. The colonists believe they don't deserve to be taxed because they lack representation in the government.
The Tea Act upsetted the colonial leaders because they still had to pay the Tea tax. As a result of this, the Native Americans boarded three tea ships anchored in the Boston harbor and dumped over 300 chests of tea into the water.
After all the wrongdoings of the British government, the colonists had enough and declared themselves independent. The war begins in Lexington, Concord.
