In this Jonas realizes when he needs to do something about the community and the release situation. He wants to save Gabe from being killed

This is when Jonas refuses to go home and go on the journey with Gabe and try to save his life. He wants to do this for Gabe because he wants him to have a good and loved life now that he knoiws what love really is.

Jonas was questioning his father what really happens when you release the newborns. Jonas was very worried for Gabe when his father said that we're releasing Gabe.
"Jonas put down his fork and stared at his father and said, "release."(lLowry 206)
Jonas and Gabe start their journey of going to the outer edge to try and stop them from releasing Gabe. By going to the outer edge they are giving back all the memories to the people of the society that were in Jonas and then they will understand. They had some trouble on the way out with people chasing after them.

Jonas and Gabe finally come to the edge of their journey where they are reaching the outer edge of the community. Jonas realizes as soon as they both cross Gabe will be saved because all of the memories will go back to the people. Jonas was very satisfied to get to his accomplishment after the hard ships through the open and cold land.
