But they didn't. They threw paper airplanes, they whispered and giggled, they made faces, and stood on their heads.
So she dressed up as a mean witch and was the students new teacher named Viola Swamp. She gave no story hour, gave the kids a load of homework, and made them work very hard.
Then the students went to find Miss Nelson. Some told the police she was missing. Some went to her house, but the curtains were shut, and no one would answer the door. They would see Miss Viola Swamp walking down the street, and afraid to get more homework, leave.
Finally, Miss Nelson came back. The students asked where she was and she said "that's my little secret." When the kids behaved well in story hour Miss Nelson asked what brought the change and they said "that's our little secret."
