The Ngai Tai Tribe lived under the forest cover of Waitākere, and controlled land a long way up north of the country. Ngati Paoa (another maori tribe) also lived on the same land. There were also many other tribes. All of them known as Tamaki tribes.
From 1600-1750, the Tamaki Tribes were building Pa, and had 2000 hecters of Kumra gardens. In 1750. The population had incread rapidly, and had over 10's of thousands of people.
Between 1740 and 1750, Ngati Whatua, moved south invading the Tamati Tribes. Then in the 18th centenary People from Ngati Paoa, and Ngahupu intermarried, and created peace for a little while, but also to show dominance.
Also in 1750, Europeans also came over, and auckland became where the wealthy, and popular people go.
By the time it got to the 18th century, New Zealand was getting more popular by the second.
A while later in 1821, The Rangatira of Ngapuhi lanched a series of attacks on the Tamaki Tribes. He sent 2000 men, and 1000 muskets. He was hoping to avenge himself for all of the other battles he lost. Many people died, but it was mostly from his tribe.
