It became a habit of the mechanical hound to growl at Montag. He was convinced that it didn't like him. However, his Captain Beatty assured him it was nothing to worry about, that it's a mere bug.
What have I done.. That poor woman.. What am I going to do?
As Montag got to know Clarisse more, she would tell him how she is considered anti-social in school. She never partakes in the life threatening activities that most "normal" kids generally do.
Shut up, Mildred
Tell me how you really feel...
No use for them now...
Montag headed to work one day after receiving a call about an old woman owning books. The firemen hopped in the orange dragon which coughed into life. They headed over to the location and unfortunately, the old woman was not cooperating by refusing to disclose the location of the books. This resulted in her burning with the books, committing martyrdom.
What does this mean?
Before they burned the old woman and her house, Montag managed to sneak out a book due to his curiousity of finding the truth got the best of him. He placed the book under his pillow and thought long and hard of what he just did
Captain Beatty came over to check up on Montag. Montag asked Beatty's opinion of books and he called them to be "The Tower of Babel". Trying to say that they are useless now and only confuse the public.
Both Mildred and Montag were aware of their situation of having owned so many books. Although Mildred was not a fan of the idea, they decided to work together in reading these books. Once everything was situated, Montag began reading his first book.
