  • Napoleon was a highly respected general. 
  • Napoleon crowned himself emperor in 1804. 
  • We don't like you!!!
  • Napoleon led several successful campaigns throughout the French Revolution.
  • You can no longer trade with us
  • A plebiscite, a vote from the people, was used to give Napoleon enough power to crown himself emperor. 
  • Napoleon made changes that reintegrated the Roman Catholic Church. He also integrated a new civil code into French society. 
  • The Napoleonic Wars consisted mainly of conflicts between France and England. The battle of Trafalgar was a naval battle where the British Royal Navy fought the French and Spanish combined fleets.  The battle was a clear victory for the British forces.  
  • Napoleon's Legacy
  • During the Napoleonic wars, Napoleon decreed that neutrals and French allies were not allowed to trade with the British. This was referred to as the Continental system or Continental blockade. 
  • The new civil code set in stone a lot of the Revolution's ideas. Freedom of religion, the abolishment of feudalism, and property rights were included. The code also inforced the idea of patriarchal power. 
  • Napoleon's civil code and policies continued on long after his rule. He is remembered by the French people as a symbol of revolutionary change.
