Out of curiosity Odysseus walked into the Cyclops cave with his men.The Cyclops asked,"Who are you? And where from?" Odysseus told him they are from Troy, and lies and says they were "blown off course"(Homer 958-959).
"My name is Nhbdy."
The Cyclops grabbed Odysseus's men,"dismembered them and made them his meal"(959).
"Athena granted" the men a branch from an "olive tree" to make into a spear.While the Cyclops was distracted with milking his "ewes" Odysseus's men smoothed the branch then Odysseus "hewed" it "again to make a stake pointed at the end"(960) .
Odysseus offered the Cyclops some wine to get him drunk and told him that it is "liquor to wash down" the men. "The Cyclops great head lolling one side;"then "sleep took" the drunk creature (961-962) .
Odysseus lugged the wooden stake "near the Cyclops as more natural force nerved them,and rammed it" right in the Cyclops's eye (962).
The men hid under the rams belly and when the Cyclops let the rams out int the morning Odysseus "dropped and rolled clear of the rams belly" and then went to "untie the men" (964-966).
