Storyboard Text

  • Direct Characterization (Sam Westing)
  • Indirect Characterization (Sam Westing)
  • Static/Dynamic Characters
  • Welcome to Sunset Towers!
  • Sam Westing was a hard working, self educated man who was 65 years old. We learned this straight from the text, which makes it direct characterization.
  • Direct Characterization
  • Although Sam Westing was hard working and self educated, he did enjoy having parties, and he would celebrate important times. This is not directly stated and must be figured out by the quote Games and feasting followed the pageant, and at sunset Mr. Westing put on his uncle sam costume and set off fireworks from his front lawn" (Raskin 19)
  • Indirect Characterization
  • Howdy There Pal!!!!!
  • Sam Westing changed throughout the book, in the beginning  of the book we knew that Sam Westing was dead and that he died in his house and somebody killed him. However, at the end of the story, we knew that Westing faked his death and played role as Northrup and Sandy McSouthers, the doorman.
  • Direct Characterization
  • Its Halloween! Lets Celebrate!!
  • Sam Westing was self educated and was 65 years old. We know this from the text, and is clearly stated right in the begining of the book. Clearly, this helps us to figureout what type of person he was.
  • Sam Westing also had lots of friends, and was a popular guy in the area. He went to many events and would spend time with other people.
  • Sam Westing was known for his crazy celebrations, and when it was a holiday or special event he would dress up and do something crazy. This is direct because it is stated straight in the text, and we can easily figure it out.
