  • Hubris
  • I got a job. I don't need it.
  • Just take the job I offer you, Willy!
  • The fact that Willy is did not achieve anything he wanted. His American Dream is an illusion and that makes him the tragic hero of the play.
  • Peripeteia
  • Your whole life is a lie. And mine, too.
  • Stop it!
  • His tragic flaw is his former affair with another saleswoman in Boston. It ruined his relationship with his son.
  • Anagnorisis
  • I am worth more dead than alive.
  • Willy shows excessive pride by not accepting the job offer of his only friend Charley because he "already has a job". He doesn't want to admit that his job is terrible.
  • Catharsis
  • Things turn upside down for Willy when his finally talk honestly with him about their lives and expectations. They make him realize the reality.
  • The moment of self-discovery happens when Willy realizes that his life insurance make him worth more dead than alive and he wants to kill himself to financially help his family.
  • The audience feels pity when his family is at his funeral and they discuss about their future plans. Nobody even mentions the insurance money.
