  • Scout finds the gum in front of the Radley house
  • Scout is curious about Jem and Dill's doings
  • Scout turns down a fight with Cecil in the play yard
  • "my first impulse was to get it into my mouth as quickly as possible, but i remembered where I was... I licked it and waited for a while, when i did not die I crammed it into my mouth." Scout is acting careful after what she heard about the Radley place shes a bit more cautious about taking something from their property
  • The Aunt is telling Scout she needs to be more ladylike
  • You cant possibly hope to be a lady if you wear breeches
  • "Next morning when I awakened I found Jem and Dill in the back yard deep in conversation... If you stay you've got to do what we tell you, Dill warned... You act like you grew ten inches in the night! alright what is it?" Scout, getting older is more curious about what big kids are doing and wants to get involved any way she can
  • Scout punches Francis after his constant teasing
  • "Atticus had promised me he would wear me out if he ever heard of me fighting any more; I was far too old and too big for such childish things, and the sooner i learned to hold it in, the better off everybody would be. Scout finally realized that fighting only causes more problems than solving them, this shows that scout is becoming more mature.
  • Scout talks back to an adult
  • Scout is choosing her own way of life, rebelling against a family member so she can act and behave how she wants to
  • "This time, I split my knuckle to the bone on his front teeth" Scout is showing when ever she really needs to she can defend herself against any people harassing her.
  • "You aint fair... You dont understand kids much" This shows that Scout isn't afraid to talk back to the authorities in her life to get justice for the wrongs that have happened to her
