Violence & Blood
1ST SCENE: -The first quote demonstrates how violence was present when the two individuals were fighting... Violence simply lead to more violence in this case. -The second quote shows how the white men watching the fight were giving orders to the individuals fighting and wanted them to fight to their death. Racial slurs were also present in this case. 2ND SCENE: -The narrator was fighting with Mr. Brockway at work and Mr. Brockway threatened the narrator to kill him! 3RD SCENE: -The narrator was presenting his speech when a white man refused to listen and then punched him in the mouth, made him bleed, and the narrator gulped the blood down his throat in order to continue speaking.
"SLUG HIM BLACK BOY... UPPERCUT HIM! KILL HIM!" (Ellison 23).
"The harder we fought, the more threatening the men [white] became" (Ellison 24).
"I'LL KILL YOU, THAT'S WHAT!" (Ellison 225).
"So I gulped it down, blood, saliva, and all and continued" (Ellison 30).

Manipulation portrays white superiority through the use of violence against African Americans that later leads to the lack of individuality.
