Storyboard Text

  • Mr. and Mrs. Datner, I am terribly sorry for your loss. The damage to McKayla's heart was so severe there was nothing we could've done. According to our tests the heart attack was caused by an overdose of Ecstasy. Ecstasy has been in your daughter's system for 6 weeks now, it seems she never stopped taking the drug...
  • McKayla maybe that's enough pills for tonight, you need to rest, this is going a little overboard- MCKAYLA! SOMEONE CALL 911!!!
  • Patient's name is McKayla Datner, 16. Suffered from a heart attack on site. Charge paddles to 200! Clear!
  • Learning Lesson: Face reality head on and don't use drugs escape your problems. Drugs DON'T SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS... Drugs are NOT THE SOLUTION.
  • On the weekend...
  • For the past 6 weeks McKayla has been suffering from depression and isolation as well as memory loss... her solution was Ecstasy as she would take it during every house party and on weekends when she went to ADAM's club... She was suffering from addiction.
  • 200mg of Blueberry and Strawberry X pills just as you requested.
  • Yes...
  • Hey Matt, do you have my order?
  • 4 hours later...
  • It's none of your business mom, besides, I don't need friends anyway...
  • Hello McKayla, I'm Dr. Grey. Last night you we're brought in because you've been taking a very dangerous drug. Now i've heard from your friend that it was unintentional but Ecstasy or MDMA is a  Class A designer drug which has no medical benefits and is the most commonly abused club drug.  Lucky for you the pressed pill you'd taken didn't include any other chemicals such as caffeine, cocaine, PCP or even heroine.
  • LET'S PARTY!!! Huuuhh, huuuh - I can't breath - huuuhhh, huuuhhh...
  • I talked to your counselor she says you sit alone in lunch everyday? Did you get in a  fight with Maddie?
  • Paranoid thoughts - yes. Well, these were all short term mental and physical affects of taking Ecstasy. I have to warn you of the risks, many people have died from Ecstasy overdose especially those with heart conditions. Ecstasy affects the body's temperature control, dancing and partying for a long time can cause you to overheat and become dehydrated which is what happened in your case. You probably didn't notice and you kept dancing anyway. If you continue to take the drug, which I highly discourage addiction would be a problem and you could develop a psychological dependance which is very hard to recover from.
  • I asked Maddie for a full rundown of what happened and she said you had dilated pupils, you had a very fast heart beat, pain and stiffness in your jaw muscles and you were sweating which means your body temperature was high...
  • Um, yes - I was really dizzy, had difficulty concentrating, I was very anxious at times because I thought I was hearing voices...
  • Dr. Grey talks to McKayla's parents...
  • McKayla's test results came back and unfortunately she has suffered minor heart damage due to high sustained heart rates she was experiencing whilst dancing last night. This could be an issue in the long term because it puts her at an increased risk of heart disease or infection and you need to carefully monitor if she has high blood pressure.
  • Another potential long term risk of Ecstasy that I should warn you about is that McKayla might experience some muscle pains and possibly brain damage where she has difficulty concentrating and thinking. Liver damage could also be an issue but since McKayla only took the drug once it is highly unlikely. Now, McKayla is ready to be discharged this afternoon but I have to warn you to be very careful with her - she is in a high emotional state and the next couple of days will be very hard on her so you'll need to be there for her and remind her that drugs are not the solution.
  • 3 days later...
  • Ouch... ouch... OUCH my back stings! My legs are so sore - what is wrong with me?
  • What did we learn in class yesterday?
  • Uhhh...ummm... I don't remember...
  • Hey McKayla I haven't talked to you in a while. How are you? Do you wanna hang out some time?
  • No - can I go to Mary's party tomorrow?
  • No. Just leave me alone. Don't talk to me again...
  • Oh, well, okay if it'll make you feel better...
  • Honey, are you feeling better? Is there anything I can do to help? Do you want to talk about it?
  • The following day at school...
  • At Mary's party...
  • 200mg! McKayla I hope you're not planning to overdose! But here...
  • Poor, depressed, McKayla... she has no friends...
  • Hey Matt, can I buy 200mg of Blueberry X pills?
  • On the weekend...
  • Best feeling ever!
  • McKayla, is that you again? Are you still taking that drug!?
  • YES! XTC is my soulmate... Do you want some?
