The issue of slavery was still present during the drawing of the U.S. boundary lines. Mississippi was added on to the union as a slave state, but this would upset the balance of free and save states in the union.
Northerners VS Southerners
Everyone was upset. The North was filled with abolishionists who wanted to abolish slvery, whereas the South was filled with people who supported the idea pf slave states.
Free state VS slave state
FINDING A SOLUTION... Tensions were high between the north and the south, and people were getting angry. They thought there'd be an imbalance of free to slave states. But, a man by the name of Henry Clay made the Missouri Compromise, which gave Missouri a title as a save state. It also banned slavery from anywhere north of the compromise line.
Example of how people wanted different things at the time of the Missouri compromise...
Were anti-slavery! And we want new states in the union to be free states!
Were Pro-slavery! And we want new states in the union to be slave states!
These events were important because this act helped hold the union of states together for a long time. It also helped make a compromise between the north and south on free states and slave states.
