  • Martin Luther -Born in Saxony in 1483-Joined the Augustinian ordered and trained to become a priest.-He thought what Leo X was doing was wrong and the only way to get to heaven was ‘Justification by faith alone’.-Luther wrote a letter to the Archbishop but it was ignored.So he then wrote the 95 theses.-The 95 Theses were wrote against the sales of indulgence, and nailed them to the door of a church at Wittenburg.-Leo expected obedience, but many people started to agree with Luther.-In 1520 Leo X wrote a papal bull telling Luther to back down and when he burned it he was excommunicated from the church. -In the diet of the Worms, Luther was declared an outlaw by edict of Worms.-Lutherism spread throughout Northern Europe.-Luther died in 1546 before war broke out between Catholics and Protestants.
