Several states had withdrew from the union in the early 1860's and formed Confederate States of America. Abarham Lincoln said they weren't allowed to withdraw, He didn't allow the Souths demand to remove their soldiers so they Charleston Harbor called Fort Sumter. So confederate leaders ordered an attack.
The battle was fought in 1862 on September 17, which is known as the bloodiest battle in U.S history. Fought between the town of Sharpsburg Maryland, and Antietam Creek.
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle started in May 18, 1863. General Ulysses S. Grant had another attempt but failed his second attempt was a success, in three weeks Grants men marched 180 miles. Preparing for the long Seige constructed 15 miles of trenches and enclosed areas filled with 29,000 soldiers and won in the end.

Gen. Robert E. Lee launched his second invasion of the northern states to discourage the enemy. His invasion army numbered more then 71,000 troops.
General Robert E . Lee wanted to retreat, U. S. Grant was riding toward Appomattox Court House. Lee had sent a letter to Grant requesting a meeting to discuss his army's surrender and this letter. Lee had several terms and conditions but both eventually got to an agreement.
