Hello! My name is Shampoo! I can swim half a mile per minute. I want to know how far I can swim in 3 minutes.
We can use the equation y=x(1/2) to solve. X = miles, so we will plug in 3 where x is. The new equation is y=3(1/2).
Three times 1/2 = 1.5. This means the equation y=x(1/2) is equal to 1.5=3(1/2). I can swim 1 1/2 miles in 3 minutes!
Let's try some other numbers! If we plug in 1 for x, then I will have 1(1/2) which equals .5! Another number is 2. 2(1/2) = 1. The last number I'll show is 0> ANything times 0 = 0.
This means I can swim 0 miles in 0 minutes, .5 miles in 1 minute, 1 mile in 2 minutes, and 1.5 miles in 3 minutes!
