  • Plessy vs. Ferguson 1896 Alejandra Pena-Barahona
  • This is Homer Plessy, he is 1/8 African American. He booked a first class passage on the East Louisiana Railway from New Orleans to Covington.
  • He sat down in a "whites only" location and was told to move to the "colored" section since he is not fully white.
  • Whites Only
  • Plessy was arrested in Louisiana for refusing to leave the "white only" section
  • The Supreme Court ruled (7/1) that people could not be separated as long as both whites and colored facilities are equal
  • After the ruling, whites and colored were still being separated in different locations and transportations
