Hi! I'm Nitro the Nitrogen atom. You may not be able to see me, as I'm so minuscule! Anyways, every day I travel constantly around the world, in my cycle and others. Today, let's explore the Nitrogen Cycle!
Let's start by entering the atmosphere! Here, we are a part of the water cycle. Nitrogen gas travels into the atmosphere, where it may soon become part of precipitation.
Lightning strikes! Electrical discharge in the air cause N2 and O2 to change form and combine with water. Now nitrogen can fall as precipitation onto Earth, in a form usable by plants!
Wow! Now we're part of a plant organism! The precipitation containing nitrogen was absorbed by the soil, and "taken" by the evergreen! This excess nitrogen-groundwater may travel to other plants and places.
Excess nitrogen precipitation becomes part of runoff, and travels to other bodies of water.
There are many other "places" to visit in the Nitrogen Cycle, but I best be off. After all, the cycle is always in motion! Before I go, take a look at the makeup of a Nitrogen atom.
