Storyboard Text

  • 1763
  • Did you hear? The war between France and England is over! We won!!
  • Yeah, but I wouldn't be so excited if I were you. England is in a lot of debt and I hear we're gonna be the ones to pay.
  • I'm happy to help my country out in any way I can and you should be, too.
  • I'm not sure I want England to be "my country"...
  • 1764
  • Oh stop being so dramatic! England needs our help to pay off debts from the war and I for one am happy to do my fair share.
  • This is exactly what I warned you about! As New England merchants, you and I both have to pay more taxes because of this Sugar Act.
  • I can't believe that ridiculous loyalist. England hasn't bothered to control us for years and now they think they can make us pay for their war! We have become our own nation. We don't belong to England anymore.
  • 1765
  • Now do you understand what I mean? We aren't the only ones affected anymore. Now everyone has to pay a tax for every printed document because of the Stamp Act. Even playing cards!
  • Maybe you're right... This is too much especially considering that we've been on our own for so long. England isn't trying to help us! It just wants to control us and get money.
