  • They set up a mission called San Franciscio de los Tejas. It was the 1st spanish mission in Texas It is a small log building with small furnishings. (1690)

  • The mission was abandoned in 1699, but the mission accomplished 2 things. It made Spain’s claim to Texas stronger, and made them realize that a successful colony need families to settle there.
  • José de Escandón
  • I’m José de Escandón. I am a military commander and I was in charge of land from between northern Mexico to the San Antonio river.

  • The letter was received, but the person that was sent to make the mission was arrested and questioned.
  • He also founded San Miguel de los Adanes, and in 1720, he founded the San Jose y San Miguel de Aquaya. It was the most successful mission in Texas.
  • He helped found 20 settlements including Laredo and Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. He is knows as the father of south Texas because he helped found many missions.
