Tea was cheap, and the British made sure to monopolize it, so that they could gain a substantial profit
Boston Tea Party (1773)
Yeah, that'll teach the British to stop taxing and mistreating us
Intolerable Acts (May 1774)
We have the right to be in your home, under the Coercive acts by his Majesty. (You can thank the people who dumped the tea for this)
The British came up with this act so that the British East India Company could have a monopoly on tea trade. This act lowered taxes on tea, however the colonists were still angry that they were making a profit of off the Colonists.
The colonists were furious at how the British were using them for their own personal gain, so members of the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and tossed the 18,000 pounds of tea overboard and into the Boston Harbor
The intolerable acts were a set of "punishments" against the Massachusetts colony for their actions at the Boston Tea Party. These punishments included: shutting down the Boston Harbor, more troops stationed in Boston, authorized troops into homes, and placing Massachusetts under Martial law (Military law)
