  • Hello, I'm Seth, and I am going to Galveston.
  • Uncle Nate got me a job as a carpenter here in Galveston!
  • Today is my first day of work!
  • In the beginning of the book Seth Braeden, along with his dad, Thomas Braeden, his mom, Eliza Braeden, his sister, Kate Braeden, and his brothers, Matt and Lucas Braeden move to Galveston, for better education and opportunities. Seth, himself, is not thrilled by the decision to move. Ezra, a slave, helps them get situated in the new place.
  • Something is wrong!
  • They temporarily are living in the house of Uncle Nate, Aunt Julia, Ben, Andy, Will, and Elliot. Not too much time after Seth and his family's arrival. Seth's uncle gets Seth a job as a carpenter. His dad, approves of the job, and as a result Seth is very excited.
  • He begins working as a carpenter under a experienced carpenter George Farrell. He meets many new faces including, Henry, Zach, and his future-friend Josiah. Over the next few days with Zach and Josiah they get a lot of work done, and he starts to really enjoy.
  • We need to go to my house.
  • About a week into work, when Seth and Ella are on the beach, they realize that the surf looks different and the climate is worsening. This is the first real moment where Seth identifies that something is wrong.
  • Then the weather gets really bad and the hurricane sweeps in. This is the main conflict in the story. The water level rises rapidly, lot of the buildings collapse, and shingles and bricks become deadly missiles flying through the air. This happens while Seth is heading to work, and after Seth realizes, he and Josiah quickly head off for Uncle Nate's house.
  • Seth and Josiah go to Seth's house, in an attempt to find his family. However, once they reach his house they find a note which shows the Papa and the rest of the family, were planning to go to Uncle Nate's house, and they trust Seth will be safe whether he be at Uncle Nate's house or at a neighbor's.
